TLDR: After over a year of legal battles, neighbors and the City of Castle Pines have successfully blocked plans for a McDonald’s near two schools, citing traffic, noise, and safety concerns. A Douglas County judge ruled the city had solid grounds to deny the project, but the developer may still appeal.

Crime Down Big in Douglas County — But Outsiders Are Driving Most Arrests
TLDR: Burglaries, car thefts, and vandalism are all down over 20% in Douglas County, but nearly 70% of serious crime arrests involve people who don’t live here. Sheriff Weekly says deputies are cracking down, using tech and regional teamwork to track offenders and bring them back to face justice.

🥩 Tried & True: Tony’s Meats & Market

Had the pleasure of enjoying way too much of Tony’s this past weekend… and I can’t recommend them enough. On my plate: juicy chicken skewers, Japanese steak skewers (close second), Cajun-style pork skewers (winner), Italian broccoli slaw, super-green salad, sweet cantaloupe, plus an Oreo brownie “cake” and massive cookies for dessert. I’ll be going back again, again, and again.

If you don’t know Tony’s, you’re missing out. This family-owned market has been around since 1978, when Tony Rosacci opened the first location on Dry Creek Road. What started as a one-man butcher shop grew — with help from Tony’s wife, Nancy, and their kids — into a full-service market blending the charm of a European shop with the friendliness of a neighborhood butcher. Today, sons Daniel and Chef Mick continue the tradition, with Mick’s culinary touch shaping the deli and prepared foods you’ll find in-store.

Why locals love it
Tony’s sources all-natural, high-grade meats — no synthetic hormones, antibiotics, or chemical residues — from farms that meet their strict quality and animal care standards. Seafood arrives fresh daily, the bakery is stocked with breads and sweets, and the deli is loaded with ready-to-eat temptations.

Their chef-prepared, heat-and-serve line makes weeknights effortless: beef enchiladas, chicken & broccoli fettuccine Alfredo, meatloaf with mashed potatoes, pesto tortellini, flatbread pizzas, and more. Menus rotate seasonally, so call ahead if you’ve got your heart set on something.

Chile Roast season is on
They’re live-roasting Hatch and Pueblo chiles at in-store events — available by quart, half bushel, or full bushel — on Saturdays from 11:00 AM–3:00 PM, August 16 through September 6. Check their website for the location schedule.
