Land and Lore

Crowsnest Annexation Filed

A new LLC, VT Crowfoot Valley Landco, LLC, has petitioned Castle Pines to annex about 750 acres along Crowfoot Valley Road east of The Canyons. County records show the land is currently A1 Agricultural in unincorporated Douglas County. The LLC’s principal office is 8678 Concord Center Dr, Ste 200, Englewood, which matches the business address used by Ventana Capital. We are verifying the ownership structure before drawing conclusions.

I’m going to take a wild guess, though: that a large developer is assembling parcels here and getting ready to build thousands of homes. Note that the property must be zoned within 90 days, if the property is annexed.

What’s next

• Nov 3: Council considers substantial compliance.

• Nov 11: First reading of annexation and agreement (if it advances).

• Dec 9: Eligibility findings and second readings.

What we’re watching

Parcel transfers, the draft annexation agreement, planned zoning inside city limits, and any related campaign finance filings.

Hometown Headlines

Castle Rock’s first cancer center
TLDR: AdventHealth Castle Rock will open the community’s first cancer care center this December, transforming the third floor of the Schrader Building into a 17,000-square-foot, one-stop destination for treatment and support. Patients will have access to doctor visits, chemo, radiation, a compounding pharmacy, nutrition classes, and spiritual care—all under one roof. The $13 million project is nearly complete, with about $1 million still needed through its Rock of Hope campaign.

Andy’s Frozen Custard, Parker
TLDR: Andy’s Frozen Custard officially celebrated its Parker grand opening on Oct. 22 at 18900 Lincoln Avenue, after quietly serving guests since June. The shop is known for fresh, hourly churned custard that’s creamier and served slightly warmer than ice cream. Its local exclusive, the “Rocky Mountain Jackhammer,” mixes strawberry Oreo and marshmallow, alongside seasonal favorites like pumpkin pie concretes and s’mores. Beyond dessert, Andy’s supports local schools with spirit nights and small donations—part of its goal to “turn someone’s day around” with every visit.

Heroes Hall donation
TLDR: Fundraising for Douglas County’s planned Heroes Hall got a major boost this week with a $100,000 founding donation from the locally owned Aloha Fund. Planned for the Douglas County Fairgrounds, Heroes Hall will be a 14,000-square-foot space (plus a 7,000-square-foot basement) where local veterans can gather, host events, and access services from the American Legion, VFW, Veterans Monument Foundation, and Veterans Service Office—all under one roof.

Tried & True

🌮 Tried & True: Venalonzo’s Tacos - Parker

Venalonzo’s first opened in Centennial, added their Parker spot this past summer, and now they’re expanding again — with a new Lone Tree location on the way (7824 Park Meadows Dr., Suite 300).

They’ve already made a name for themselves far beyond Douglas County, landing on Yelp’s Top 100 Taco Spots in America (#22), Top 100 Places to Eat in the Southwest (#82), and even taking home the Denver Gazette’s Best Taco in Denver 2024 title.

They’re best known for their birria — which shows up in everything from quesabirrias and birria ramen to pizza birria and mac balls — but even if that’s not your thing, there’s plenty more. Think all-day breakfast burritos and chilaquiles, loaded nachos, wings, tortas, and chili relleno plates.

I started with the nachos and went straight for their go-to quesabirria. Both were excellent, and the birria consomé for dipping seals the deal.

Quesabirria 🤤
