Well, hopefully you didn’t spend last night waiting to pick up friends who had delayed flights while trying to write a newsletter like I did. Oh, the clock just struck midnight. Nice. Oh well, we’ve got a fun few days ahead across Castle Rock and Parker, plus a trip out to Red Rocks for a concert. There might be too many event options this week for you, so choose wisely.
Your Live Music This Weekend
Parker Days turns 50
Parker's biggest tradition hits a milestone this week. The Parker Days Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary June 11 to 14 in downtown Parker, and admission is free. What started in the 1970s as a small community fair has grown into a signature event for the town, with recent years drawing hundreds of thousands of people across the weekend.
Here is how the four days lay out:
Thursday, June 11: Carnival rides only, 1pm to 11pm (the festival itself is not open Thursday)
Friday, June 12: Carnival 1pm to 11pm, festival 4pm to 11pm
Saturday, June 13: Carnival and festival 10am to 11pm
Sunday, June 14: Carnival and festival 10am to 9pm
The music
Live bands play across three stages all weekend. On the GS Exterior Experts Main Stage, the headliners are The Long Run (an Eagles tribute) on Friday, Wash Park on Saturday, and blues-rock veterans The Fabulous Thunderbirds closing things out Sunday night. The Backyard Paradiso East Music Stage runs its own lineup, including a Prince tribute from Paizley Park on Saturday, and the CORE Electric Cooperative Community Stage features local talent, school groups, and cultural performances all three days.
The carnival
More than 50 rides spread across the grounds, and this year adds an old-fashioned Ferris wheel and extra rides by the East Music Stage, plus a brand-new family ride zone on East Victorian. Wristbands are cheapest online and are not sold at the gate: a single-day Early Bird is $25 for the first four hours, a full single day is $40, and a four-day Mega pass is $95.
The food and drink
Three food courts cover just about every craving, from brisket and Korean fried chicken to funnel cakes, turkey legs, and acai bowls, with more than 25 vendors in all. Beer, wine, and specialty drinks are spread throughout the site.
Everything else
More than 200 marketplace booths, a free kids craft area, street performers, artisan demonstrations, bungee jumping, and inflatables. Proceeds support community grants for local Parker organizations through the Parker Chamber Foundation.
A couple of logistics: parking is free at the PACE Center, Town Hall, The Schoolhouse, Pine Curve, and Sulphur Gulch. Full schedule is at parkerdaysfestival.com.
And when the festival winds down... Venalonzo's Tacos, right on Mainstreet downtown, is throwing a Latin Night billed as the Parker Days after-party on Saturday, June 13 from 9pm to late. Expect salsa, bachata, and reggaeton, Latin food, and a $10 cover at the door. Facebook event here.
Highlands Ranch is not to be outdone
While Parker throws its 50th, Highlands Ranch has its own three days of live music. VetStock returns to Max Taps on County Line Road from Friday, June 12 through Sunday, June 14, with around 25 acts across the weekend and a cause behind it: the festival benefits the Warrior Bonfire Program, which supports Purple Heart recipients and combat-wounded veterans.
The headliner is Hazel Miller & The Collective, who close out Sunday at 7:30pm, with The Jack Hadley Band and Velvet Denim also on the bill. Music runs Friday evening (6pm to 10pm), all day Saturday (noon to 10pm), and Sunday afternoon into the evening (1pm to 9:30pm). General admission is free, with VIP areas for purchase at the event and food and drinks for sale on site (no outside food, drinks, or coolers).
It closes Sunday night with the Warrior Bonfire American Flag Retirement Ceremony, a moving patriotic send-off worth sticking around for. Max Taps is at 2680 E. County Line Rd. Ste A, Highlands Ranch.
Addendum, one more for the calendar: Parker Brewfest just dropped its tickets. The 10th annual beer festival lands at O'Brien Park in downtown Parker on Saturday, August 8, with unlimited 1-ounce samples from more than 30 craft breweries (34 pourers in all, counting wine, spirits, mead, coffee, kombucha, and ready-to-drink cocktails), plus food trucks, local bites, and live music. It is a 21-and-up event, proceeds go to local nonprofits, and tickets run $50 for general admission (2pm to 5pm) or $80 for VIP (1pm to 5pm) at parkerbrewfest.com.

Hometown Headlines
Douglas County weighs new rules for scooters and off-highway vehicles
TLDR: Douglas County commissioners passed the first reading (3-0) of an ordinance that would regulate low-powered scooters and off-highway vehicles like e-motorbikes, dirt bikes, and mopeds on public property in unincorporated parts of the county, with mandatory fines from $150 to $1,000, helmet rules for riders under 18, and possible impoundment. E-bikes and most scooters aren't affected, and it still needs a second reading to take effect.
Forte opens in Lone Tree with 101 affordable senior apartments
TLDR: Koelbel and Company opened Forte, a 101-unit affordable senior rental community in Lone Tree's RidgeGate East, with units for residents earning 30% to 80% of the area median income. It's the developer's second affordable community in Lone Tree, after Talus.
The Groove opens at Lyric in Lone Tree
TLDR: The Groove, the new neighborhood hub at Lone Tree's Lyric at RidgeGate community, is now open at 10930 Lyric Street, and the café and restaurant are open to the public (the pool and fitness center are residents-only). It pours coffee and seasonal bites by day and runs as a full restaurant and bar by night.
Last call: weigh in on Castle Pines' annexation policy
TLDR: Castle Pines is drafting a policy to guide how it would weigh any future annexation requests. The city isn't considering any annexations right now, but a resident survey is open through June 14, with open houses June 29 and July 1.
